Anteater Cup - Easton Center Chula Vista - May 24, 2025

We had the pleasure of attending the Anteater Cup, hosted by the University of California, Irvine, at the iconic Easton Archery Center in Chula Vista. This one-day tournament brought together an impressive range of talent, from Olympic Recurve and Barebow to Compound archers—all drawn by the promise of friendly competition and Southern California sunshine.

The morning kicked off with qualification rounds and after a midday break to refuel, the afternoon transitioned into elimination rounds. Tensions rose and sunscreen was the least of anyone's concerns as the matches became more intense with each round.

One of the highlights of the day? Reconnecting with so many familiar faces from past events—thank you to all our loyal customers who stopped by to say hello—and meeting a whole new batch of archers who were curious about what makes OCD Strings, well, obsessively good. We had great conversations, sold quite a few custom strings, handed out a bunch of stickers, and answered lots of questions about our custom string process.

But the most memorable moment for us? Realizing—too late—that all our prebuilt string label specs had vanished in the afternoon heat. Turns out, the Pilot Frixion pens we use for our reusable build notebooks also double as disappearing ink in high temperatures. Who knew? Apparently, not us. Lesson learned: next time, permanent ink only. Re-labeling party, anyone?

Despite the minor hiccup, it was a fantastic event full of great energy, strong competition, and the kind of community spirit that reminds us why we love this sport (and this business) so much. Thanks to UCI and the Easton Center for hosting, and to everyone who stopped by the booth. We’ll see you at the next shoot—hopefully with all our labels still intact.
